Class Division
Grade 00 class for 5 year olds
This class consists of children who are 5 years old. The children are focused on socialisation and discovery. They follow a certain theme with a lot of attention on perceptual and gross motor skills. The children do everything through playing.
Grade R class for 6 year olds
This class consists of children who are 6 years old and follow a more formal programme as prescribed by the Department of Education. In this year they are preparing for grade 1 and have to master skills according to the child’s age.

Workbooks
Prescribed work is done in workbooks. Extra work is stored in their art bags. We follow the Department of Education’s curriculum (CAPS) -
Stationery
Stationery packages are available at the tuckshop. Orders can be placed and paid with your child’s teacher. Prices are available at the beginning of each year. Please mark all stationery before sending it to school. Replenish your child’s stationery as required.

Indemnity Forms
You must complete the forms and return to your child’s teacher please. Your child will not be allowed on any excursion without a signed form. Please inform us of any changes to your personal information.

Message Book
All letters and other information coming from the school or the teachers, will be pasted into your child’s message book. You can also write messages to the teacher into this book. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you READ and SIGN every letter and please SEND THE BOOK BACK TO CLASS THE NEXT DAY. This is a very successful method of communication between us and you.

Telephone Numbers
Your child’s teacher will write her contact number in the front of the message book. Please feel free to contact her with any problems or uncertainties. Just a nice chat is also welcome, please keep in mind that 10 o’clock at night might not be the best of times.

Parent Evenings
At the start of each year there will be a parent meeting held in the school hall with the principal and the teachers. All parents will benefit from attending as this is where we get to know the school and ask questions and get answers.

Excursions and Incursions
There are several outings planned during the year. You will be informed in advance of costs so that you can budget for it. If you have a problem, please come and speak to your child’s teacher. Excursions are paid for in CASH with your child’s teacher, NO EFT payments please.No child will be taken on an outing if the indemnity forms have not been completed. We only use busses with roadworthy certification. Your child’s safety is our concern.

Clothing
Everyday Wear
We have a set of six (6) t-shirts that we use. One shirt for use each weekday and an excursion t-shirt. It can be bought from Mrs. Belinda Nel. Dark blue shorts are worn with this, Mrs. Nel have samples that can be ordered if you’d like. This is our uniform and is mandatory for all pre-primary pupils.
Excursion T-Shirt
This orange t-shirt with a big bee on the front is part of our 6 t-shirt set. This t-shirt is worn with jeans, socks and sneakers during excursions and for our concert and graduation ceremonies.
Tracksuits
School tracksuits are mandatory for the pre-primary grades. It can be ordered and bought from your child’s teacher. Prices will be available from the teacher.

Lunch boxes
Your child’s lunchbox must contain a sandwich or other food. Please cut your child’s sandwich into 4 pieces.
Sandwiches can be ordered and paid for at the tuckshop every day. One treat is acceptable but not a lunch box full of sweets. A packet of chips or one sweet is good, fruit is great. Please peel oranges etc at home. Please remember that sugar in large quantities is BAD for your child.

Prefects
Each class has a grade 7 prefect who helps in the class before school. If necessary you can trust her with a message or money for the teacher (for excursions etc.). All school fees to be paid in at the office only!

School hours
School starts at 07:35
The teacher start at 07:15, then the class will be open.
For the first week of school we close at 12:00 daily, but the teachers are in class till 13:00.
From the second week onwards we close at 13:00 daily.
Every school day there is one class available as a waiting class for all grade R and grade 00 until 13:40.
We are closed during public and school holidays.
Our athletics takes place at the end of each year with the rest of the school.
14. Quarterly reports
Your child is assessed during the whole year.
Reports are given quarterly.
There will be a parent evening on the same day as report cards are given out.
15. Teacher education
Staff does training courses to keep abreast of departmental changes and write exams during the year, a temporary
teacher will always be in class when needed.
16. Tuckshop
On Fridays you can send R8 to class. The tuckshop makes up sweet parcels worth R8. If your child is allergic you can supply your own small bag of sweets. Food can be ordered and paid for (with the teacher) daily but SWEETS only on Fridays please. You can pay in advance should you prefer to.
17. Birthdays
Only cupcakes and/or sweet parcels please.
NO big cakes please.
18. Toys
No toys may be brought to school, the toys are lost or broken and the teacher cannot be held liable.
OLD TOYS can be donated and will be greatly appreciated.
19. Medicine
Do not put medicine into your child’s schoolbag, please hand it to the teacher with clear instructions, should your child be required to take medicine during the school day.
20. Sick children
Do not send your sick child to school. We cannot care for a sick child in class and you will be called to come and fetch your child.
In case of measles or chicken pox and other contagious illnesses, your child must stay at home until completely healed.
Head lice is an unfortunate reality at all schools, all classes are checked regularly, should your child have lice, he/she must stay at home until all lice and nits are gone. These are Department of Education laws for all contagious illnesses.
21. School fees
School fees are prepaid at the beginning of each month before the 3rd day of each month.
School fees can be paid by electronic transfer, bank deposit or cash (at the office), do not pay the teacher, they cannot issue you a receipt and have to leave the class in order to bring your payment to the office.
NB! All excursions must be paid for with the teacher, in cash. NO EFT or bank deposits can be made. We cover the costs with your payment so cash is best.
22. Neatness
Your child’s hair must be neat and clean. Girls with long hair must have it fastened. Girls must wear shorts or jeans if possible, no skirts please.
23. Parents' workday
You will be notified of workdays, when we ask parents to come and help with minor repairs. Every parent’s help is valued.

Fees are payable to all private parties. It is payable directly to them, NOT to the school.
25. Fundraising projects
We have 2 cake sales each year.
We have one big yearly fundraiser.
26. Photo day
School pictures are taken each year by a professional photographer.
Graduation photos and class pictures are taken at the end of the third term each year.
27. Eisteddfod and orating
We take part in the art exhibition at the school every year.
Public speaking is offered and all participation is voluntary.
You have the option of letting your child take part in Germiston Eisteddfod society.
28. Kitchen crafts (bak en brou)
We have a kitchen craft day for each theme.
